Hello. Here is my income report for the month of January. Here’s my high tech spreadsheet that I used to help me calculate my net profit:
Let’s get down to it.
eBay started out hot, got cold in the middle of the month, and has been blowing up for the past three or four days. All in all it was a good month. It’s the first time that I netted over $2000! This is the start of me making more and more money on eBay. I learned how to measure and list suits and blazers, which will prove profitable in the future. I almost have broken even on this huge clothing lot that I bought a couple of months ago for $280, so anything that sells from this point out from that lot is pure profit baby.
Here are a few of my most memorable flips of the month:
Amazon has proven to be very profitable. This number is deceiving since it tells a much deeper story. I have bought 2 huge lots of video games over the past 2 months for $270 and $280. My situation with these lots is similar to the huge clothing lot that I bought: any item that sells from this point forward is pure profit since I’ve basically broken even so far. Considering this one item for sale is from the $280 lot:
There is a lot of profit to be made over next two months.
This number for Amazon is deceiving because I grossed about $1300, but like I said before, most of this money went towards paying off the two video game lots. Also, at the end of November I bought about $300 dollars of Lego’s for around $48 each. Unfortunately, many other people bought the same Lego at Walmart and it ended up being a race to the bottom.
So I priced my Lego’s low to simply get rid of them. I lost about $15 on each Lego, for a total loss of about $75. It’s the cost of doing business.
Amazon Kindle: $1.4
I haven’t published a new book for about 4 months, so it’s fun to make some passive income, even though if it can only buy a cup of coffee. Kindle seems to have a ton of potential, I simply haven’t put enough time and effort into it to learn the platform and learn how to make a lot of money.
Net Profits: $2491.26
Last month I netted $2062.74, so this is progress. Progress is slow, but at least it’s progress. This month was a struggle with Seasonal Affective Disorder. I am always fucking tired. It sucks. I need to get more fish oil. I’m pretty proud of myself with these numbers. Although they may be laughable to a lot of ‘internet entrepreneurs’ who are making like $10k a month, it doesn’t matter. I’m in competition with no one but myself. And I don’t want to compete with myself- so there is no competition. I’m a die hard capitalist, but ‘competition’ seems to add another dimension of stress to business that I don’t need to deal with.
I signed up for hot yoga yesterday. I’m slowly getting used to Northampton, and am finally starting to see through the fog of seasonal depression. Seriously, my hippocampus (depression impacts this area of the brain the most), felt scrambled this month. Time had no meaning. January 2nd might as well have been January 25th- I have little to no concept of time ( the hippocampus is responsible for memory formation). Hot yoga is progress since it adds a little bit of structure to my day. Although I want to build muscle I’m going to get some push up bars to do some body-weight exercises.
A lot of entrepreneurs make fun of the 9-5 grind. In some sense a 9-5 is a grind: it’s monotonous, you don’t get to work on your own projects during the day, and sometimes it feels like your being babysat.
On the other hand, a 9-5 adds structure, and familiarity to our lives. The best part about a job is the community. Working at Starbucks kind of sucked, but I really enjoyed my coworkers and the tribe that we formed. I’m going to get at least a part time job this month. I need structure in my life. I literally stay in bed until 11 am every morning unless I have something to force me out of bed (a job). Many people would say I ‘have no discipline’ or ‘don’t have enough drive’, but fuck those people. I can literally sleep for 14 hours every night during the winter, and then happily take an hour nap during the day. Sure part of it may be discipline, but a larger part of it is Seasonal Affective Disorder and the shock of moving to a new city.
I’m tentatively optimistic about this month (February). I finally have some systems in place for my eBay business, I will start to turn a profit on the video game hauls and clothing haul that I bought, and I have a ton of video games to send into Amazon. Also, winter is coming to a close. By the end of this month I want to be on a work out routine (hot yoga and body-weight exercises) and not have a completely fucked up sleep schedule.
Check back here in the next Tuesday. I’m releasing a free book that will show you how to make a full time income (if you consider $2300/ month livable) off of eBay from your bedroom!
Until next time,
